How the cover is laid out
A KDP paperback cover is one image that wraps around the book: back cover on the left, spine in the middle, front cover on the right. It has 0.125 in of bleed on all four sides, which gets trimmed off after printing, so any background colour or art should extend to the outer edge.
Keep text and faces at least 0.125 in inside the trim line (the green dashed boxes in the preview). The purple box marks where Amazon prints the ISBN barcode.

How do I calculate a KDP paperback cover size?
Full cover width = bleed + back cover + spine + front cover + bleed, with 0.125 in of bleed on each side. Height = trim height + 0.25 in. Spine width = page count × paper thickness (0.002252 in per page for white paper, 0.0025 in for cream).
What resolution should a KDP cover be?
KDP asks for at least 300 DPI. Multiply the cover dimensions in inches by 300 to get the pixel size. For example, a 6 × 9 in book with 300 white pages needs a 3878 × 2775 px cover.
Can I put text on my spine?
Only if your book has at least 80 pages. Keep spine text at least 0.0625 in from each spine edge, because the fold can shift slightly during printing.
Where does the barcode go?
KDP prints a 2 × 1.2 in barcode in the lower-right corner of the back cover, 0.25 in from the spine and bottom edges. Keep that area free of text and important artwork.
